Picture cards, like family photographs and postcards, are small fragments of landscape that present the world, simply and resolutely, from a voluntarily chosen perspective. Unlike photos and postcards however, picture cards have an accumulative value, which means they cannot be understood in full unless the collection is complete.
We are all aware that picture card collections are never complete and all know the excitement of starting new ones.

“Dog’s Life” is the first of our “Picture card” albums. It deals with the human geography of territory that people share with a lot of animals we often ignore: insects, birds, farm animals of which we feel proud at agricultural fairs, and farm animals (geese, pigs and hens) that we hide away in order not to feel guilt. This we do not because they are killed to eat, but because of the way they are made to live. It also features pets that share happy and sad moments with families, and pets that sometimes bear witness to the loneliness of their owners.

“Dog’s life” was an experiment that lies somewhere among anthropological analysis, artistic creation and geographical documentation. La Nau Côclea has organised this first event, which has been coordinated by Maite Oliva with the collaboration of artists, journalists and thinkers from L’Empordà and all over.
