PA CK Play Area [interactive facility]

The PA CK project is one of the research and creation activities run by the “La Sospechosa” Cultural Association. It was backed by the Government of Catalonia’s autonomous government body for the dissemination of culture (ICAC) in 2005, and by Nau Coclea in Camallera from December 2005 to February 2006.
We invite you to take a look at the work that arose from this collaboration and to play with the PA CK area, which comprises small technological, audio-visual games.

The PA CK project started in 2002 with the residency in Barcelona’s “Sala Metrònom” and a KRTU grant. Since then, it has continued to develop, taken on different forms and occupied different spaces. This year, for the second time, the project is being run at Nau Côclea and involves different collaborators, who include the children and teachers of school in Camallera.

PA CK is co-ordinated by:
Oriol Blanch and Constanza Brncic
Collaboration: Matt Davis (music and sound), Carme Torrent (dance creator) Gerard Vilardell and Francesc Tarrès (software creation)

Children’s PA CK

Children’s PA CK is part of a wider project: the PA CK cross-disciplinary creation and research project.

Children’s PA CK is a laboratory in which children and artists take part in a game of collective creation.
Visitors, aware of the feeling of being and moving, generate sound, image, colour, and reflections, etc. and take part in the creative work using their bodies and movement, while creating their own compositions.

The area contains elements such as paint, paper, mirrors, iron, wood and plastic, etc. and technological items, video cameras, projectors, and computers, etc. that the children can constantly transform. It is an area for collective expression that is intended as an ideal environment for play. Using oneself to play and create with.

Children’s PA CK is part of the PA CK cross-disciplinary research and creation project that was run at Nau Côclea from December 2005 to February 2006, In addition to laboratory work, the project also includes a series of public performances

  • The proposal involves the generation of a play area that includes performance, the creative process and research.
  • The work allows for the combination of more theoretical reflection on such broad concepts and experiences as the body and technology, with creative practice from different perspectives, involving different ages, generations and interests.
  • It generates a living document that reflects different points of view and prompts an open and many-faceted perspective based on the body, representation and technology.

The project involves group work for which different collectives (anthropologists, adolescents, dancers, scientists, plastic artist, playwrights, children, teachers, and computer experts, etc.) were invited to play with our PA CK area for interactive and collective creation.

Features of the PA CK Area:

  • Sound: microphones, sensors, acoustic instruments and own creative software to record and transform the sound.
  • Image: webcams and projectors.
  • Capture of real image. JInteractive play between digital and real image.
  • Documentation: miniDV video camera, writing and drawing software
